System-wide Water Meter Conversion
The City of Bloomington is currently in a system-wide conversion to radio frequency based water meters.
The new water meters will eliminate estimated meter readings caused by lack of access to the reading box on the house such as following a major snowstorm with deep, drifted snow. The meters will also eliminate any problems with a customer installing a fence and limiting access to a meter reading touch pad. The new, drive-by system is more efficient, saving labor costs in both meter reading and billing. Meter Readers no longer need to walk from house-to-house for each meter reading. Where just a few years ago it took three Meter Readers an entire month to read all of the water meters in the City, this new system, when fully deployed, will allow the water meters to be read in just a few days each month.
The City has received a number of questions about this new technology. See our Radio Frequency Water Meter Installation Program Frequently Asked Questions
