Classroom Programs at the Zoo

Preschool - Kindergarten
This is an opportunity to meet three of the zoo’s residents, learning about their natural history & daily life at the zoo. Students will see the animals at close range & have the opportunity for hands-on interaction. We can focus on a particular topic or simply have a “show & tell”. Our most popular topics for this program are animal coverings, animal groups, & animal senses. If you’re studying a specific topic in-depth with your students, we can customize a program that ties directly to your curriculum.
These programs last 30-45 minutes, after which you’ll visit the zoo at your own pace.

1st Grade - 12th Grade
We have two different program options for you:

Classic Classroom
This is a great way to keep your students engaged during their zoo visit. You & your students will spend 30 minutes with an instructor in our classroom learning about the topic of your choice, then complete a topic-based worksheet while visiting the animals exhibits. We’ll gather 60 minutes later for a time of wrap-up and Q&A. Popular topics are vertebrate classification, animal adaptations, rainforests, and biomes. We can also customize your program topic to suit your curriculum & students’ interests.

Animal Encounter
This is an opportunity to meet three of the zoo’s residents, learning about their natural history & daily life at the zoo. Students will see the animals at close range & have the opportunity for hands-on interaction. We can focus on a particular theme or simply have a “show & tell”. These programs last 45-60 minutes, after which you’ll visit the zoo at your own pace.

Classroom Program Fees:
The fee for a program at the zoo is $6.00 per person for students and adult chaperones.

Zoo To You! Let us bring our animals to YOUR classroom!

Presentations last 30-45 minutes and include 2-3 animals. Choose a topic that fits your curriculum or we can just “show & tell”! Maximum group size is 50 students. Available for McLean and adjacent counties.

ZooToYou programs are also available to community groups, senior facilities, and libraries during regular business hours.

ZooToYou prices vary and are dependent upon facility location.

Contact Shannon for prices, information, and reservations at sreedy@cityblm.org or (309)434-2256.
